Genesis 1:14

Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them serve as signs, and to mark the seasons, days, and years”.

The purpose of the sun and moon and stars are given as being a calendar—to mark days and years, and to be for “signs” and to mark “seasons”.

Acts 2:19-20

“For there shall be signs in the heavens above, and wonders on the earth below”.

The twelve signs of the zodiac mark something significant about specific periods of time. Avah, Hebrew for “signs”, and Moed, Hebrew for “seasons,” indicate that the stars mark something fixed or appointed—specifically prophetic and historical events. As “signs”, as picture-symbols, the constellations contain a message—a message not in regular language or speech, but in the language of symbols:
